Lahore, April 3 — The Government of Punjab has initiated large-scale implementation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s comprehensive national savings and austerity program, marking a significant step toward economic relief amid a worsening global financial crisis.

In a major announcement, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif unveiled an extensive relief package aimed at easing the financial burden on citizens across the province. As part of the initiative, public transport services in all major cities of Punjab have been made completely free for a limited period.

According to the announcement, commuters will not be required to purchase tickets for travel on key transit systems, including the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus Service, Speedo Bus, and Green Electric Bus. The move is expected to provide immediate relief to daily commuters and encourage the use of public transportation.

The relief package also focuses on supporting the agricultural sector. The Chief Minister announced direct financial assistance to farmers, including a subsidy of Rs. 100 per liter of diesel per acre to reduce cultivation costs. In addition, motorcycle owners will benefit from a fuel subsidy, with every registered bike holder receiving Rs. 100 subsidy on up to 20 liters of fuel.

Praising the federal government’s efforts, Maryam Nawaz Sharif commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for maintaining stable petroleum product prices and ensuring uninterrupted supply despite global economic pressures. She noted that billions of rupees in relief had been extended within a month, calling it a “sincere and strong effort” to protect citizens from economic hardship.

Highlighting the severity of the situation, the Chief Minister stated that the ongoing global crisis, driven largely by war, has impacted economies worldwide, with Pakistan facing greater challenges due to its reliance on imported oil.

“We will not leave the public alone in these difficult times,” she affirmed, urging citizens to opt for public transport instead of private vehicles to collectively ease the economic strain.

She concluded by assuring that the government remains committed to reducing the financial burden on citizens and will introduce further relief measures as economic conditions improve.
