Punjab is set to experience an intense heatwave in the coming days, with temperatures expected to rise sharply above seasonal averages, according to meteorological forecasts.
Weather experts indicate that daytime temperatures in several parts of the province could climb 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal levels, while southern areas may witness an even higher increase. In some regions, the mercury is likely to cross 40°C, with heatwave conditions intensifying as dry weather persists.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that plains of southern Punjab will be among the most affected, where temperatures could rise 6 to 8°C above normal. Such conditions significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses and dehydration.
Officials have advised citizens to take precautionary measures, including avoiding direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, staying hydrated, and wearing light clothing. Vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and outdoor workers are particularly at risk during extreme heat conditions.
Experts also noted that heatwaves in Pakistan typically begin in April and can intensify further in May and June, especially across Punjab and Sindh. The current weather pattern suggests an early and potentially prolonged period of high temperatures.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and emergency services may be put on alert if conditions worsen. Schools and workplaces may also adjust schedules if the heatwave intensifies further.
