Israeli Strikes Kill 9 in Southern Lebanon, Tensions Escalate

At least nine people were killed in fresh Israeli airstrikes targeting southern Lebanon, according to state media, as violence continues to intensify in the region despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.

According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, multiple areas were hit in the latest wave of attacks. In the town of Ansariyeh, five people were killed in a dawn strike, while four others lost their lives after an airstrike hit a residential complex in the Qadmous area. Civil defence teams were deployed to recover bodies and rescue the injured from the rubble.

Reports also indicated that additional strikes targeted vehicles and other locations in southern and central parts of the country, further adding to casualties and damage. Three people were reported injured in the attacks, with emergency services responding across affected areas.

The latest incident comes amid a broader escalation in hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, which has seen repeated airstrikes and cross-border attacks in recent weeks. Analysts note that southern Lebanon remains a key flashpoint, with ongoing military operations contributing to instability.

Despite a ceasefire arrangement involving the United States and Iran, Israel has maintained that its operations against Hezbollah are separate and will continue. This position has complicated diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions across the region.

Observers warn that continued strikes risk further destabilising the situation, particularly as civilian areas are increasingly affected. The growing number of casualties has also raised humanitarian concerns, with calls for restraint from the international community.

The situation remains highly volatile, with fears that continued military action could undermine fragile diplomatic progress and lead to a wider regional escalation.
